Stories fuel imagination
So the days of grandma’s tales are over. What we have is an overload of visual medium in all forms.
The lost art of story- telling needs to be revived and rekindled. The fountainhead of all imagination is in stories, especially the ones that are well told. Storytelling predates written history; its origins can be traced to folk lore and mythology of all countries and till date remains one of the most powerful sources for professional, spiritual, cinematic and artistic inspirations.
There has been an increased adoption of storytelling as a management technique. Stories can be of significant value to an organization in a number of ways. It can be used to ignite change, to enable people to build a sense of community and allow more effective collaboration and most importantly to foster greater understanding between people from different ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
TED.com for example, does a marvelous job of first providing a platform for story-telling and then bringing in the best innovators and storytellers across the world.
I think there’s scope for high-touch, in-person story telling platforms at every level within enterprises and communities.
Stories inspire stories. Stories inspire imagination. Imagination precedes innovation. When is the last time you had a story telling session?
